Do kids today even understand what SponsorBlock is?

Well, you see, kids, it’s a tiny add-on that skips the sponsor bits in online videos — wait, I should go back.

Okay, so creators started putting paid shout-outs inside their videos to survive demonetization and CPM mood swings — no, earlier.

In the TV era, shows paused for commercials bought by “sponsors” — hmm, not the start either.

“Sponsorship” just means a business bankrolls content in exchange for a mention — earlier.

Since marketplaces, people have been buying little slices of attention to say “please consider my thing” — earlier.

Humans kept watching, but also kept inventing ways to dodge interruptions — remote controls, DVRs, skip buttons — closer.

And then: the crowd got organized.

Viewers press a key at “start sponsor” and “end sponsor,” upload those timestamps to a public database, and the next viewer’s player glides right past it.

That, kids, is SponsorBlock: the centuries-old tug-of-war between “please listen to my pitch” and “please let me finish my video,” settled (for now) by a communal skip.
